Apostasy – Word of the Day

Apostasy means

1: an act of refusing to continue to follow, or obey, or to recognize a religious faith, to fall away from faith. Today many are called Atheists. Paul was accused by the church of apostasy in Acts 21:21 of teaching against the Jewish law on circumcision.

It comes from the Greek word apostasia meaning defection, revolt or rebellion. The Great Apostasy is a concept within Christianity, best known in the time of Martin Luther’s Protestant Reformation when the early apostolic Church had fallen away from the original faith founded by Jesus. A time in the History of the church where Martin Luther was instrumental in reforming the church, my son introduced me to the movie Luther years ago that I found good.

Based on Gods sovereign grace; some hold that true believers may stray, they will never fall away. While others say; any who fall away were never really saved or that they may have “believed” for awhile they never experienced a change or transformation.

A very important Note to self is: a person worried about falling away or of our sins should realize that conviction of sin itself is evidence that one has not fallen away. Remember: Your desire for salvation shows you do not have a “heart of unbelief,” It is what God says that is true not others beliefs or interpretations.
